George R. Sroufe, 83, died at 2:10 p.m. Tuesday at his residence 221 Dayton St., Yellow Springs, after a critical illness of three weeks.He had been in failing health for six years.

Born in Yellow Springs May 2, 1862, he lived his entire life. Until his retirement seventeen years ago, Mr. Sroufe was employed as an engineer at the Yellow Springs Saw Mill Co. He was a member of the Yellow Springs Methodist Church, the Yellow Springs Masonic Lodge, the IOOF, and the Junior Order of American Mechanics.

His only survivor is his widow, Mrs. Mary E. Sroufe. The body will be returned to the residence Wednesday afternoon from the Littleton-Yoder Funeral Home.  Funeral services conducted by Rev. T.W. Shoemaker will be held at the Yellow Springs Methodist Church Friday at 3 p.m. Burial will be at Glen Forest Cemetery.
