Today’s post is the obituary of Emily Dawson. Although her obituary states that she was buried in Glen Forest Cemetery, her name is not listed in the Greene County Ohio Cemetery Inscription Book, Volume I, published by the Greene County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society so I was not able to determine where she was buried. Perhaps she did not have a stone or maybe it has been damaged and/or fallen over and buried over the years. The fact that we can’t find Mrs. Dawson’s tombstone serves as a reminder to how important it is to ensure that burial records and tombstones are preserved for future generations.As published in the Yellow Springs News on November 2, 1917:
Mrs. Emily Dawson
Mrs. Emily Dawson died last Saturday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Earl Drake after a long illness. The funeral services were conducted Monday from the house and burial was made n Glen Forest.
Mrs. Dawson was past 78 years of age and had been a resident of this place for many years. She was a native of Ontario, Can. and there marred Israel Dawson in the sixties, they came here after the Civil War and settled on a farm and later moved to town. To this union was born two children, Mrs. Drake and a son Howard who died several years ago.
